WINES FROM THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED

At Colonial, we have a wine selection so large it can be overwhelming. Even with our large selection there are still certain grape varieties that captivate some more than others. We’re talking Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. These varieties are great, but they are definitely from the road most traveled. Listed below are some wonderful wines made from grape varieties that aren’t as well known – but totally should be! Raise a glass to trying new wines, because choosing the path less traveled makes all the difference.

Grochau Cellars Melon de Bourgogne 2016

Don’t let the length of this grape’s name deter you, Melon de Bourgogne is going to be your best friend if you love seafood. The wine is bright, mineral, earthy, and not too fruity. A great wine to start a progressive meal because of its light body; it can also be the star of the show with fresh oysters. Either way, you’re in for a treat!

Zeitgeist Trousseau Gris 2016

Made from old vine fruit in the Russian River Valley, this wine is a show stopper. Gorgeous fruit, fresh, vibrant and satisfying. The electrifying acidity in this wine begs to be paired with heavier, more indulgent dishes like a burger and truffle fries. The fresh lemon and green apple notes with have you feeling refreshed with each sip.

Juan Gil Monastrell 2014

Everyone needs a delicious Spanish red in their life, and Juan Gil is a wonderful example. This Monastrell (Mourvede) wine offers velvety red and black fruit flavors and is aged to perfection in French oak. This is a great red wine to reach for on a Tuesday night—or to be paired with heavier white meat like Latin flavored pork chops!
