It's September, which means it's National Bourbon Heritage Month! Not only is Bourbon delicious on its own or in your favorite cocktail, but it can be utilized in the kitchen as well! Here are some recipe ideas to inspire you this month.

Pecan Pie: Instead of vanilla extract, use Bourbon!

Caramelized Onions: When your onions have cooked down and are at their desired caramelized color, de-glaze your pan with just a splash of Bourbon. Continue cooking until the liquid has evaporated. Use the onions for burgers, griddled sandwiches and savory pies.

Adult Peach Bourbon Sundae: Super easy! Saute slices of fresh peaches; when tender and juicy, toss with brown sugar and baking spices. Remove from heat and stir in desired Bourbon amount. Pour boozy peaches over vanilla ice cream and enjoy!

Maple Bourbon Bacon: Bring 1/4 cup maple syrup and 3 Tbsp. Bourbon to a boil in a saucepan and let cool. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and bacon. Bake the bacon at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with maple Bourbon; continue cooking for about 10 more minutes or until bacon reaches desired crispiness.

Bourbon Brown Sugar Sweet Potatoes: In the south, it's traditional to top sweet potatoes and sweet potato casserole with brown sugar.  Toss your brown sugar topping with a splash of bourbon before topping the tubers for an extra treat!

At Colonial Wines and Spirits we're here to help you celebrate more! Come in and see us for ideas and help picking out the perfect bottle. Happy National Bourbon Heritage Month. Celebrate safely and deliciously!
